Japan Ski Guide powered by SURF&SNOW

A magnet for powder addicts from around the world, Niseko has many tours with competitive powder snow experiences. Our recommendation is a CAT tour where you can enjoy powder to the limit! Choosing from among countless tours, we've gone undercover on a Niseko Weiss Powder Cats tour by Niseko Hanazono Resort!!

What is a CAT tour?

On a CAT tour, you can board a snow vehicle used for grooming snow at ski resorts that will take you to spots with great powder snow. No longer will you have to compete with other skiers for good powder spots, and you can forget about trudging up the mountain to do some backcountry skiing. This exclusive tour takes you well away from the crowds on Niseko Weiss mountain for the whole day, so if the weather is good the powder snow is yours all day long! The operator will choose good spots for your skill level. If you can powder-ski, you're eligible for the tour.

Careful guidance by overseas staff

Most of the tour guests are from overseas, so the guides are from overseas as well. They will thoroughly explain the tour outline, cautionary points, and how to use beacons (free to borrow). Though the guidance will be in English, don't worry; there'll be a Japanese interpreter.

Towards powder paradise in an original black CAT!

As you leave the Hanazono Resort you'll meet the fabled original black CAT! It looks different and far cooler than regular snow-grooming CATs. Bet you're getting excited!!
The CAT will take you up the mountain and in about 10 minutes have you at the destination.
This day the conditions were very good. Niseko's great powder snow was just moist enough for a foothold. And it was all ours! Of course, everyone skied on the trackless piste.
After indulging in a run through the ultimate eternally smooth powder, the CAT will be waiting for you at the bottom. Just hop in and it'll take you to another spot.
Inside the CAT, the guide will show you the map and tell you about each area, or how to ski on powder snow! Some people felt so great they even started singing!
The CAT take you to a different spot every time, so every piste is untouched, trackless powder. Keep skiing until your time is up - it just doesn't get any better than this!

Includes a lunch that leaves nothing to be desired!

After a vigorous morning's skiing, it's time to head for lunch. Even after skiing in a backcountry-like field, it's nice to take off your boots for a while and relax with a slow lunch. Lunch comes with coffee and black tea. They really know their thing!

Back to the powder paradise in the afternoon!!

And it's back to the powder paradise in the afternoon. Tours are limited to a maximum of 12 people so no matter how much you ski, there's no risk of anyone stealing your precious patch of powder!
Your guide knows Weiss inside out, from open pistes to interesting spots with some ups and downs, and will take you all sorts of areas. If you like powder, you're going to love the experience. Niseko Weiss Powder Cats hosts only one tour a day so you'll need to book ahead, especially during the high season as it gets busy. It's best to make a reservation as early as you can.
