When practicing snowboarding or approaching the lift platform etc., you might need to climb up a slight slope. Let's learn how to climb up a slope with one foot fixed to the snowboard. If you just learn the important points such as where to point the board and how to move your feet, climbing slopes will be easy.

Place the edge of the snowboard against the slope

When climbing up a slope, place the edge of the snowboard against the slope. Letting the edge of the toe side bite into the snow will stop you from skidding. Make sure that the foot not fixed to the snowboard is placed on the upper side of the slope, above the board. You can then climb up the slope in this way.

Climbing up slopes

When climbing up slopes, repeatedly put the foot that's not fixed to the snowboard forward and pull the snowboard up. When putting your foot forward, take care to hold the edge of the toe side up so you don't skid.
Step forward. Stabilize the snowboard by letting the edge sink into the snow.
By moving your body weight onto the foot that has stepped forward, you can lift up the snowboard while the edge is still against the snow.
Pull the snowboard forward like this. Repeatedly perform this motion to climb up the slope step by step.

An example of how not to climb up a slope - not using the edge

When stepping forward, the edge of the snowboard is what forms your footing. If you try to climb up a slope like this without the edge against the snow, the snowboard will slide and you will find it difficult to climb up. Be sure to lift up the toe side of the snowboard and let the edge dig into the snow.
